Question What is one of your most satisfying achievements in working within grasslands?
Expert Fiona Smith
Fiona Smith is an environmental planner in the Environment and Heritage Division of Parks Victoria. Fiona is currently working on planning for the establishment of the Western Grassland Reserves, a new grassland park which will connect the You Yangs area to the Werribee River across the Volcanic Plains west of Melbourne.
I am particularly proud of my involvement in the recovery of the Sunshine Diuris orchid, a very rare orchid that was reintroduced back into one of the grasslands I managed. A team of very dedicated people from the community, Melbourne Zoo and the government worked very hard to propagate the orchid, plant many of them back into the wild and monitor the plants over a number of years.
