Fiona Smith is an environmental planner in the Environment and Heritage Division of Parks Victoria. Fiona is currently working on planning for the establishment of the Western Grassland Reserves, a new grassland park which will connect the You Yangs area to the Werribee River across the Volcanic Plains west of Melbourne.
I am lucky enough to work with a lot of people with knowledge and expertise in grasslands with whom I can both learn from and share what I know about grasslands. Also when we undertake management actions in a grassland such as burning, weed control or grazing, we monitor the outcomes so that we can make changes to the way we manage grassland sites. This is called adaptive management.
