Topic Grassland management
Question Is it possible to restore degraded grasslands back to high quality grassland ecosystems? Do you have any examples illustrating how this can be done/has been done?

Fiona Smith is an environmental planner in the Environment and Heritage Division of Parks Victoria. Fiona is currently working on planning for the establishment of the Western Grassland Reserves, a new grassland park which will connect the You Yangs area to the Werribee River across the Volcanic Plains west of Melbourne.

Restoring degraded grasslands is possible in some cases given enough time and resources, however how well they can be restored will depend on how degraded they are to begin with. Restoring grasslands on a large scale may not be possible but there is a lot of research and effort currently being put into helping to solve this problem.
