Perennial. Produces adventitious roots from the lower parts of the stem. Grows vigorously in damp sites but can survive in dry soils.  When it grows into large tussocks it can add significantly to bushfire intensity.

Identifying Characteristics

Loosely tufted erect grass with stems 60-80 cm tall. Leaves up to 20 cm long and 3-10 mm wide, with a ribbed upper surface. Flower heads white, pink or purplish. Flowers mainly August-December.

Distinctive Features

Leaves soft, velvety and greyish-green. Oblong, densely packed flower heads when young.
