Occurs on rocky outcrops. A squat shrub with rigid spreading branches and thick spines. The fruit is a pale grey berry with purple flecks when mature.

Identifying Characteristics

This species is similar to Melicytus dentatus however is dense and rounded with very rigid, intermeshed spreading branches and leaves. The leaves are generally smaller than those of Melicytus dentatus. The pale yellow flowers are recurved and may be solitary or in pairs. Flowers mostly July-January.

Distinctive Features

The leaves are 12-22 mm long and 2-5 mm wide. The flowers are bisexual (containg both male and female reproductive organs).

Occurs on basalt outcrops on the Victorian Volcanic Plain, extending onto limestone in south-eastern South Australia. Also occurs in Tasmania.
