Identifying Characteristics

Tufted tall, erect grass to 1.5 m. Leaf blade bright green, 7-40 cm long and 7-15 mm wide, flat and finely ribbed. Flower heads contain several spike-like clusters of flowers held almost at right angles to the flower stem. Flowers summer-autumn.

Distinctive Features

The seed heads occur at the tips of the upright flowering stems. The seeds are very sticky.
