Identifying Characteristics

Tufted, erect grass with stems to 60 cm tall. Leaves to 20 cm long, inrolled. Flower heads brownish. Each flower has 5 awns (bristles). Flowers October-February.

Distinctive Features

Each flower has four small awns (bristles) around a longer central awn which twists in the lower 10 mm.
