Adiantum aethiopicum


A  perennial fern with a creeping and branched rhizome above or below ground. The rhizome is covered with scales and tapers to a long tip. Spore are produced in sporangia which are found beneath a pinnule lobe, covered by a half-moon shaped leaf flap. Occurs in exposed or protected habitats, particularly near creeks and on shaded hillsides.

Identifying Characteristics

Erect to spreading lacy fern to 50 cm. Fronds are tufted at intervals along a rhizome (underground stem).
