Flower stem to 70 cm tall with numerous blue or purple flowers with darker nerves clustered in bract axils. Flowers September-January.

Occurs in a variety of habitats including the basalt plains near Melbourne. Uncommon to rare in the east. Also found in South Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania.
