Dr John Morgan is a research scientist in the Department of Botany at La Trobe University, Bundoora. John has worked for many years in the grassy ecosystems of southern Australia, concentrating on understanding the long-term changes that occur in species composition in the context of land-use change, ecological management and plant invasions, relating his findings to conservation and biodiversity.

People! Most people don’t appreciate grasslands, compared to a rainforest or the highest of mountains. Hence, it’s very hard to get people interested in your research or to get them to see the potential beauty in grasslands. For most, native grasslands just look like another paddock of grass. Hence, it takes a lot of convincing that grassland protection and conservation management is a worthwhile thing to do.
