After fire, many native grassland plants may resprout from their roots or germinate from seed.
Burning creates bare ground where seeds can more easily germinate and grow.
Fire can trigger the germination of weeds as well as native seeds stored in the soil.
One example of strategic burning is to burn the native grassland during the period after plant seeds have set and before they begin to flower again (typically from autumn till early spring).
